My material of choice is porcelain. I also work with glass, sometimes combining this with other materials. Nature in all its diversity, informs my work. As I walk through my garden I enjoy examining the leaf shapes of plants and investigating further into how the patterns change between and within each one and then over time. I have taken prints of grasses, pressing them into the soft clay, leaving the perfect image . After firing in a kiln, I colour with mineral oxides copper, rutile and yellow ochre. The second firing which reaches a temperature above 1230degrees, fixes the colour indelibly in the porcelain. The translucency of this material further expresses the delicacy I see in the plant forms yet there is a quiet strength in its durability and that is also evident in nature.
