I am based in Malvern and have been creating art full time since 2013. Working with coloured pencils and pastels and more recently digital processes I have honed my craft enjoying the process of figuring out how to create different textures.
My style is realistic, my art looks like a photograph from a distance whilst keeping the softness of a drawing when viewed close at hand. Currently my work is based largely on the natural world, where I concentrate on details to bring animals, birds, and flowers to life.
Except for some commissions I work from my own photographs giving me complete control over the creative process. This allows me to study the animals and their characters envisaging how a piece might work and creating a narrative.
I am exploring digital art and have completed several pieces using an Ipad, it’s an exciting medium with many options although it is unlikely to replace my pencils as I would miss the tactile feel of pencil on paper.
I have had artwork and articles published in international magazines and received the David Shepherd award at The Wildlife Art Society International Annual Exhibition in 2018 and 2019.
At the Open Studios event I will have a work in progress on display and will be working on it in between visitors and will be happy to answer questions and give tips about my work. Some of you may have met me at various Malvern Art Markets where I show my work in the picturesque Priory grounds.
There will be lots of original artwork on display as well as a large collection of prints and greeting cards. If you are interested in learning more about pencil art I can also give you more details about my workshops and tutorials.
