I love to create ! As a child I was always making , painting or drawing. I trained as a potter during my teens and one of my first jobs was making pots and figures for a studio in Cheltenham. I decided to study Fine Arts at Cheltenham and explore printmaking and sculpture. But for the ten years I have been painting, mainly in acrylics and always with colour.
I am lucky to be able to work full-time as an artist and when not working on commissions or exhibitions , I like to experiment with different techniques and paints.
My work ranges from landscapes, meadows of flowers , myths and legends to urban scenes. I am interested in a memory of a place or atmosphere of a time. I want to engage the viewer into the scene and provoke conversation .
Some of my paintings are quite large 'Statement pieces' which I enjoy as I can explore the image and mix up abstraction with more traditional brushstrokes.I will often revisit a place , painting it again but in different times and seasons.I will look at the light , skies and weather which will all impact the final painting.
My love of reading , especially fantasy are often entwined within my myths pieces. I will sketch out figures and place them within different settings , sometimes adding writing along the sides of the canvas.
I am inspired by life, people, places, books and time.Artists do influence my colour palettes , methods but I try to remain true to my style and direction .
Although , my work is constantly evolving , colour , texture and meaning are central to my art .
