I am a mixed-media textile artist based in the lovely village of Bishampton in Worcestershire. I use free-motion embroidery to create my work, which is a way of ‘drawing with thread’ using a domestic sewing machine. The creative process involves painting a background with procion dyes or sometimes textile paints and adding detail with layers of thread. Landscapes and local architecture are the inspiration for my work.
I also create large-scale mixed-media textile designs where I set myself challenges to explore new techniques and incorporate them into my designs. The larger pieces are made for public commissions, some techniques I use involve appliqué (collaging with fabric), felting, and creating three-dimension elements to my textiles.
I am currently exploring mono-printing and hand-embroidered textiles on canvas in my latest work. For more information about my work, please visit www.michelleflint.com, or email: michelleflintdesigns@gmail.com. I am available for workshops, school visits, demonstrations and talks.
