Classically trained in oil and having painted all of my life (now also in acrylic) I have always been inspired by light; how it changes local colour and how colour makes us feel.
I enjoy painting local landscapes - l have been spotted dragging my easel through the beautiful Worcestershire and Herefordshire countryside. I am inspired by the dynamics of clouds and the stillness of greenery. I love Welsh beaches and have painted a few.
I have a passion for painting still life paintings including flowers and some of my treasured objects around the house; antique clocks, vases and other items carefully curated over the years. Whatever the flowers, in bud, open as well as ones that have gone. There's a beauty to everyday life around us - this is what I am trying to capture. I am particularly keen on capturing water as an entity and shape of its
own.
I have enjoyed capturing some unique and idiosyncratic characters of Worcestershire’s dogs and cats in pet portrait commissions.
My inspiration comes from early 20th century post Impressionism and colourism. The idea that colour is considered as important in a painting as light and composition has stayed with me in my 30+ year art practice.
I am a founder member of Barbourne Artists collective in Worcester and enjoy our yearly Summer Exhibition as well as Christmas Art Fair. Finalist at Broadway Arts Festival 2024. Exhibited jointly at Number 8, Pershore, in October 2024.
I regularly exhibit at Artist Studios at Bevere Gallery as guest artist; I am also an exhibitor at Worcestershire Open Studios every year.
A selection of my limited edition prints, greetings cards and art gifts are stocked at independent stockists in Worcestershire (Lillie& Dot and Script Haven in Worcester, Austin&Co in Malvern)
