I’ve been drawing and painting my signature quirky stick figures for over 15 years. 2 years at art college, a degree in art and design followed by a short career as a teacher ultimately led me to creating these figurative compositions . What started out as serene pastel drawings gradually evolved into the distinctive calligraphic characters they are today.
Inspiration came from a cocktail of artists that inspired me along the way, including the elongated figurines of Giacometti, the curves of Henry Moore sculptures and the congregations of Lowry’s every-day-life match stick men.
I have created a wide range of artworks covering themes such as sport, music and popular culture but a recurring theme is one that celebrates our English and Britishness - with union jacks, telephone and red post boxes making regular appearances amongst the figures.
Alongside this I am busy creating ‘personalised portraits’ and their growing popularity is a continuous joy. I am commissioned to create couple, wedding, family and friend portraits that combine the personal thoughts and ideas of the client with my quirky drawings. Although, on occasion, they can be quite complex, these challenges are always thoroughly rewarding on their completion.
How wonderful it is to create original pieces of art for others to enjoy.
