I’m a teacher, mosaic artist and amateur sculptor. Having thoroughly enjoyed my journey of discovery and creativity working with clay, plaster and cement over almost 20 years to produce sculptures for my home and garden, I felt a growing urge to work with more colour. Mosaic felt like the perfect medium to explore and a short course with a professional mosaic artist was all the convincing I needed! I found a space in my garage and, drawing on the artistic and practical experience acquired over years of sculpting, I spent many happy hours developing my mosaic skills, at the same time creating yet more artwork with which to fill my home and garden! I love the way straight-edged pieces of hard material can be cut and placed to create flow, fluidity and movement, and this has become a major element of my work. And the use of colour brings each piece to life in a way that sparks joy! My inspiration is varied but a major element comes from life and nature I see around me.
I am at heart a teacher, as well as by profession. For many reasons I hadn’t been teaching for several years, when I was asked by the tutor at my sculpting group to step in and take over his roll when he had to step down due to illness. After a nervous start I quickly realised how much I loved to teach, how much I’d missed it and how teaching needed to be a part of the next chapter of my life, as did mosaics. So I took over the garage, converted it into a mosaic studio and classroom and started running workshops in 2014.
Having lived in the south of France for nearly 20 years, the urge to return to my roots became very strong and in 2019, I returned to the UK with the intention of relaunching my mosaic studio and workshops which had become such a huge part of my life. (My happy family of mosaic students in France who I left with a heavy heart have found a community space and have continued mosaic making together, which makes me very happy!).
After quite a stuttering start due to the pandemic, my studio is now open for regular weekly mosaic workshops, as well as on-demand taster sessions and courses. I also undertake commission work by request.
