Always passionate about art & design, following a design degree at Kingston University, I was lucky enough to have a successful international career designing for such brands as Mulberry, Daniel Hechter, Bamford and Boden, as well as lots of freelance projects.
I’ve always painted & sketched and longed for a time when I could devote more time to the practice -an enforced life change gave me the opportunity to commit to developing my new career (with the odd project on the side which now includes volunteering to run Worcestershire Open Studios alongside Mary Brittain & Anna Cumming!).
I now split my time between the Malvern Hills and the Ceredigion coast which provides endless inspiration for my work.
Most of my paintings originate from sketches & notes made on my daily walks. I work in quite an impressionistic way enjoying employing different marks and mediums to achieve a sense of place rather than an exact, photographic representation. I see drawing and observation as key to my practice and am happiest being outside, sketching or painting 'en plein air' and responding to the landscape at the time.
I work in whichever media I am drawn to at any given time, and frequently mix them together (perhaps a knock on effect from when I was an art student on a budget and just had to use what was available!). My current work is predominantly in oils and often mixed with cold wax but I frequently use watercolour, inks & pastels if I am wanting to create a different feel.
I undertake commissions alongside my main work and teach occasionally. Awards & features include TALP OPEN Daler Rowney award, TALP OPEN The Artist Exhibition Award, Broadway Open Finalist.
