My art journey started life 4 years ago ( a little late in life) when I picked up a DSLR camera to take photos of my puppy, realising my phone camera simply wasn't doing the job. I soon found that I was fascinated with the flowers in my garden and the tiny world of macro, viewing flowers and insects in amazing detail. This led me to explore photography through evening classes at college and I soon found out that I preferred manipulating the photograph with various softwares to create more abstract photography. My abstract art can take the form of in-camera processes whilst taking the photo, or manipulating the end photograph to create something completely different, adding textures, layers or other parts of photographs. One of my recent pieces of work has undergone over 200 layers and processes to arrive at the final piece.
My love for photography has not stopped since, but after I joined the village Artisans Group in 2022, I realised I was inspired to do so much more, exploring different art forms, in the same areas of botany and abstracts.
My passion for botanicals has never waivered and this is where I am at my happiest. I now create all my work from my own reference photographs and am currently enjoying creating artwork in both watercolour and coloured pencil. I love bright and bold colours and I reflect this in my work. So I have managed to incorporate my photography together with watercolour and pencil.
I am currently following a Diploma course in Botanical Illustration to develop my skills with the hope of becoming a member of the worldwide Society of Botanical Artists.
