I have had my own pottery workshop for over 25 years and create mainly functional slipware pottery with a few sculptural pieces too. I have a marine geology background and was brought up on the Jurassic coast which has heavily influenced my work. I use coloured liquid clay (slip) which provides a fantastic fluid palette to explore patterns in nature, particularly marine geomorphology, such as the drawing back of silt by the waves on a sandy shoreline.
More recently, I have been finessing my alternative firing processes and am producing some interesting raku and barrel-fired pieces – some of these will also be available at open Studios.
My wife, Sarah, designs fused glass and enamelled pieces and at Open Studios you can see the full range of pottery and glass wares and see where our classes are held and what you might make in a workshop.
We both run classes in our respective crafts at home in Worcester and people travel from quite a distance to take part in these and leave great reviews. We also run half- and all-day (includes lunch) combined pottery and glass courses which prove popular for those wishing to try both crafts. Gift vouchers are available from our websites or you can get in touch by email.
