I am inspired by my experiences of untamed, open spaces and wild coastal weather, and paint abstracted landscapes that express my connection to these places.
Working in oil and acrylics from plein air sketches and found objects, my process stems from exploration with colour, texture and mark making. I create layers of history within each painting by adding and subtracting mixed media, until an image emerges that connects with a memory or experience, which then directs the composition. Often ambiguous, my work leaves the viewer to complete the image by connecting with their own experiences of the landscape.
Since leaving the Malvern School of Art in 2020, I have exhibited in Pembrokeshire, Hay-on-Wye and Malvern, and have work in private collections in the UK and abroad. I will be exhibiting in my first solo exhibition in Spring Cheltenham from April 13th - 18th. You can find a selection of my work on my website, www.suzannenichollart.com and see my work in progress through Instagram and Pinterest @suzanne_nicholl_art.
