As an artist I have always been interested in light; without light there is no colour. My colour palette tends to be muted and moody. When I paint I try to capture my vision of the beauty of the world around me. My inspiration comes from French impressionists and post impressionists, as well as Polish colourists of the 1920s. My art offers my attempt at capturing a moment in time, an impression, painted using long loose brush strokes. I paint using both oil paints and acrylics.
I started painting with oils as a young child and was fortunate to receive tuition in classical oil paintings of old masters by an art college professor from early teenhood. Having bowed to parental pressure not to go into art school and pursue a different academic path, I carried on painting. After 14 years of work in interior design and fashion (and two children later) I discovered acrylics and have not looked back, though I have continued to produce some oil paintings.
My inspiration comes from nature around me - I enjoy painting seasonal flowers, from bud, through bloom and once they have wilted. I am in awe of their beauty in their short life span and try to capture that moment in time. They bring so much joy!
When painting people or pets I try to capture the connection they have with the world, who they are, their personalities and experiences. Painting landscapes I revisit my favourite places on the Welsh coast and well as the green pastures of Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
I hope to welcome you to my home to see me at work, have a look at my current pieces as well as those in progress, and have a coffee and a chat in my exotic city garden.
