I am currently working on a Sunrise series, which I started in February 2021. If I remember correctly this was third lockdown and I was missing wilderness walks. Making the effort to get up early to observe the changing light of sunrise proved to be a productive inspiration for painting. These paintings develop in three stages; from A5 coloured pencil sketches to A3 acrylic studies to the birch panel oil painting. I will be open every day of WOS, my studio will be in it's working state with my sketch books and finished paintings on display. I will be working on a current painting. I will also have limited edition giclee prints and cards of my paintings.
My work is mainly inspired by the wilder aspects of landscapes, from Pembrokeshire to Svalbard. During the lockdowns I was greatly consoled by joining Zoom life drawing sessions, set up by enterprising life models. As we all had to stay indoors or local I was removed from my usual source of inspiration. Luckily for me I used to include the figure in my paintings so "We Have Been Here Before" was a Covid experience image. Inspired by figure drawing, my interest in pre-historic cave art and the Covid briefings on the radio news.
I am an artist member of “Made in Ross” www.madeinross.co.uk We are an art and crafts cooperative with a gallery in the Market House in Ross-on-Wye, open every day 10.00 to 16.00.
