I took up art when I retired from busy careers in both the NHS and Academia. Retirement has been a wonderful opportunity to explore sides of myself that I never had time for before.
I am a largely self taught artist. I began my art journey using pastels and acrylics. Discovering oil paints was a revelation. I love their sympathetic versatility and they are perfectly suited to my painting style. I paint by blending wet paint directly onto the canvas or paper; sometimes adding in cold wax to create greater depth and translucence. My work is abstract in nature and draws on my experiences and emotions of places I have been. I focus on abstract landscapes and seascapes with a particular emphasis on dramatic skies.
I am an enthusiastic, experimental artist who still has a lot to learn!
If you are interested in my work I would love to see you at the Open Exhibition in August and you can see a wider sample of work on my Instagram page Jan_Husband_Art
