Having taught in colleges and run classes for many years I am now concentrating on my own work since moving to Colwall. The natural world has always inspired me and I have been engaged in drawing, photographing and painting our local landscape and the wildlife which inhabits it.
My textile work often starts in a sketchbook, where ideas develop and simmer as I experiment with collages, paint, fabric and stitch. I don't always have a fixed idea of how it will be when completed but allow things to happen. Sometimes a happy accident can take over and lead to a new approach or development.
Mixing media, changing surfaces, contrasting textures, printing and layering are all part of a considered process. Landscapes whether distant or in detail can be atmospheric or dramatic but I also enjoy the challenge of concentrated looking and accurate recording while painting wildlife.
