This is the forth time I will have taken part in the Open Studios, it is an event I look forward too each year. Meeting new people with a love of art and sharing our work is such a joy. Last year my work was in The Tything Coffee Club which is my son's coffee shop and I met many lovely people but the space was quite small, this year my work will be in the shop again but also in the workshop at the back of the shop where I run Worcester Drawing School. This means I have a lot of space to fill and this will be one of the biggest exhibitions of my work that I will have had. I will be making a lot of new work but also showing a lot of older works dating back to my MA in 2010, my degree in 1991 and I even have some work from my Foundation in 1988. Now that has made me feel very old.
My work has changed over that time, but drawing and printmaking have been common themes that have run through continually. The figure and the portrait have also been constant through most of my work but my style has developed.
Commissions are an interesting part of my work and I enjoy the challenge of incorporating elements of the persons life into the painting and mixing mediums to make a more exciting composition. Drawing from life is another important part of my practice which is why I run portrait and life drawing classes every month.
