My passion for painting and my love of the natural world are intimately connected. My inspiration often comes while out walking on the Malvern Hills; capturing ta special moment, a view or a quality of light in memory, sketch or photograph. These are brought home to my garden studio where I work them up into paintings. I work mainly in acrylics and oils and I'm always experimenting and learning new techniques, trying new approaches to express the atmosphere I want to convey.
As well as painting I am also an art tutor, teaching several acrylic painting classes in West Malvern. (Do get in touch with me if you are interested in joining)

I paint landscapes, semi abstract landscapes and entirely abstract works. I often work on a Landscape and abstract piece at the same time; the freedom of the non-representational work freeing up my my more figurative landscapes.
I am just as likely to be inspired by a poem, a piece of music an interesting rusty surface, weathered door or rock formation, and my life-long fascination with natural and geometric forms, colours, textures, and patterns informs my diverse range of work.
I try to bring energy, movement and drama into my work, which can be quite a vigorous physical process; by building up layers of paint using a palette knife, spattering, rubbing back, scratching and scraping to create a textural surface with depth and history. I love finding the sweet-spot between chaos and control; where mistakes become discoveries, and where the magic begins and a painting starts to emerge, from experimental creative play.
