After half my life being spent as a farmer, I began working in wood on a large scale in the nineties, building stables, studios, cabins, field shelters and home offices.
When I retired from building, I turned my knowledge into woodworking on a much more modest scale, creating small items of furniture, decorative boxes, bowls and wall sculpture in a wide range of hardwoods.
I use my scrollsaw skills and carving to create individual pieces which I have sold locally, in London, and in America, where scrollsaw art is much more familiar, particularly in rural communities.
Wood is a material which is exciting and rewarding to work with, beautiful to look at and touch. Each piece is unique, with a character of its own, which challenges me to make something special. As the years have passed, many woods have become much more difficult to source. I now take the greatest pleasure in recycling and repurposing decorative, rarer woods, often from unwanted older or damaged items of furniture, too big for the modern home.
I love designing using these contrasting woodgrains and colours, and am pleased to be doing something to conserve these precious materials by creating artworks for lovers of wood to enjoy in their homes today.
