The inspiration for my artwork comes from nature. Natural history has always been a passion of mine - I look at the natural world with awe and wonder but with an awareness of the increasing fragility and vulnerability it faces because of today's environmental challenges.
I use the cyanotype process for most of my work. This is a photographic contact printing technique that does not use a camera and was first used in 1842.
I use a combination of found natural materials and digitally prepared and printed transparencies in order to create my images. These are placed onto paper which has been coated with ultraviolet sensitive chemicals which I mix myself and it is then exposed to sunlight to create the image.
I add details using gold and copper metal leaf and ink.
I have an MA in Fine Art and have been shortlisted for several prize exhibitions including the Jerwood Drawing Prize and the Ruskin Drawing Prize. I exhibit regularly and my work is held in both private and public collections.
