I am really looking forward to welcoming visitors to my open studios event. This will be my second year taking part and I hope to build upon the success of 2022 and to meet more people who share a passion for art.
I love to create bold, colourful, dramatic and textured paintings and I cannot wait to share my art and show some of my methods and techniques.
I always strive to push the boundaries and develop my style and technique in order to convey depth in my scenes and give the viewer a sense of place. I love to experiment with a range of different styles and mediums to create highly textured and vibrant impasto pieces. I am predominantly self-taught, working mainly in oils and pastels as well as iridescent/metallic acrylics. In addition to small and intimate work, I also love to create much larger, bold statement pieces on large canvases.
Art plays a significant part in my life and I find myself constantly inspired by the natural world. I am fortunate to be surrounded by the ancient countryside of north Worcestershire and my landscapes often feature the dramatic skies and magical sunsets I experience here and on my travels. I also love to paint wild, energising landscapes and seascapes and to explore the breathtaking beauty and dramatic scenery of Scotland and the Isles of Scilly.
I hope that my work invokes a sense of what I see and experience and gives an impression of the everlasting, vivid memory I have for a place. With my more abstract pieces I am often reacting to the fragility of our environment and am attempting to impart the feelings I have for our precious world.
I feel that art is both something that should be looked at and admired but I also want some of my pieces to go beyond the visual and be tactile as well. I am happy for visitors to touch my work so that they can be drawn even further into the painting. I often incorporate unconventional methods to convey 3D texture and I will demonstrate how I apply “Polyfilla” with various palette knives to attain heavy impasto.
During the event I will be selling original artwork, mounted prints and greetings cards.
A warm welcome awaits all my guests and I will also be providing refreshments.
