I am an abstract painter working in acrylic paint and mixed media. My front room is my studio, which is where you can view my pictures. My inspiration comes from landscape, aerial photographs, and natural textures and colours. I respond to the visual results of the events and processes I see, driven naturally or by humans, catastrophic or benign. There is visual fascination, often beauty, in the randomness, the chaotic and the unpredictable which arise in my chosen media as there is in the changing physical world of structures and patterns I love to observe. This extends to the concept of imperfection which has captivated me since reading for my degree in ceramics: the Japanese value imperfections in pottery because it is evidence of making by hand, and they even have a specially recognized art - kintsugi - for repairing ceramics distinctively to enhance a piece's value and beauty. As an artist there is great satisfaction in being both the deliberate creator and at the same time an evolving part of the process of my relationship with my materials and their expressive qualities.
