Kim Whitby

Artist and teacher
Apple Blossom. (En plein air) Oil on Board. 2022
Drawing, Painting

I draw and paint from direct observation; frequently en plein air.
I am very interested in the abstract elements in my drawings and paintings, despite working representationally. I love tone, pattern and line and I work frequently in ink on paper, which is probably what I am best known for. In colour I work in both watercolour or oil with a limited palette. I am interested in natural, historical and geographic, settings and structures, while I also relish exploring all aspects of scale, both in the size I work and by trying to convey a sense of scale within my work.
My website will tell you lots more about me, www.kimwhitby.com but you may have seen me as a Wildcard finalist on Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year, as the winner of Pintar Rapido (the national plein air painting competition), on Artist and Illustrators Magazine’s inaugural Facebook LIVE artist, seen my work in The Mall Galleries (RSMA and Sunday Times Watercolour Competitions), as contributing tutor artist in The Artist Magazine, or encountered me as a teacher at various places including The Art Academy London or West Dean College in West Sussex, amongst other establishments.
I am an experienced and qualified teacher with a BEd Hons first Degree in Art and Education and more recently gained a Fine Art MA at Aberystwyth University.
I am qualified to teach new artists from just over three years in age and have had the pleasure to teach adult students in their 80’s and once one gentlemen in his 90’s.(and all the in-betweeners of course too) I also provide workshops and demonstrations for art societies and private groups.
I have a current and portable DBS. I am insured with a-n artists.
I especially enjoy helping fellow artists of all ages along their personal art journey, in groups or on an individual basis so please get in touch! kiminthecloud@me.com
I use Instagram as a regular art diary so find out what I am up to on @kimwhitbyart
I am pleased to be participating in Worcestershire Open Studios for the second time in 2022.
I look forward to meeting you then.
